Tommy Hilfiger’s show was at the beautiful (but inconveniently located) Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. The event attracted the likes of Pharrell Williams, Julianne Moore and the never-aging Helena Christensen. The 60s-design venue was a fitting backdrop for Hilfiger’s classic American dressing.”

For the Moment | Fashion Week In the Bag
This week’s guest blogger is the 22-year-old supermodel Hana Soukupova, who has been treading catwalks since she was 13. Soukupova is the face of Gucci Envy, she appears in the current Gap campaign, and she has closed shows for such designers as Valentino, John Galliano, Dior, Celine, Gucci, Michael Kors, Roberto Cavalli, Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein, Donna Karen and Zac Posen. But at The Moment, we love her for her sharp eye, which is why we slipped a digital camera into her handbag and asked her to cover Fashion Week through the lens of a model. Today I skipped the Bryant Park tents for a photo shoot for V Magazine. The photographer was Mario Sorrenti, who always make girls look gorgeous. Our shoot was amazing and I wish I could give you the details but I can’t spoil the surprise. I took some behind-the-scenes photos of the purses of some of the girls on the shoot with me. Here is Jeisa Chiminazzo’s Derek Lam bag. She always carries her passport, a lip gloss and her wallet. I love the color of her bag; it’s perfect for Spring. Jeisa had to rush from the shoot to the Bryant Park tents for the Zac Posen show – look for her on the runway tonight!

Not all fashion shows this week are in the tents or derelicte warehouse spaces. At last night Gucci’s party, Madonna and daughter Lourdes, among many others celebrities modeled designer frocks. The chic venue for this fashion blowout? The United Nations. Every seam was so precise it was like looking at a Lucio Fontana painting — but wearable, sophisticated and, at times, even sexy. The fabric, mostly cashmere and boiled wool, was molded and cut to create beautiful shapes, like a gray one-shoulder dress that folded over the chest. There was a shearling coat with a cross cut right at the stomach that slightly flapped when the model walked, creating a very cool effect. Francisco Costa’s designs are the opposite of embellished, but you could never call this beautiful, textural collection minimal. I loved it.”

There is always a cool factor at Phi because it is styled by Marie-Amelie Sauve, the “It” girl stylist. Everyone wants to know where her head is at because it might give us a glimpse into the all-important Balenciaga show that will take place in about two weeks in Paris. Well, this show was full of skin-tight lace lingerie dressing à la 80’s Madonna. Just when I thought we were moving back to the 50s!”

Last night I decided to stop by the Liz McClean presentation. A few friends of mine were going and they heard Feist was performing. Alas, a secret acoustic set did not materialize — Feist was there to support her friend, Simone Ruby, who gave a good performance. Oh well!”

It’s all about… Ivana in the 80s! At least if we’re to believe Peter Som in his debut collection for Bill Blass. Plenty of YSL-esque wool trouser suits, pleated skirts, ostrich feathers galore and cocktail dresses that you can just see the former Mrs. Trump wearing in paparazzi photos in Spy magazine. The custom shoes by Christian Louboutin made the show as did the Leggs hosiery (when was the last time you saw hose on the runway?). We predict a trend.”

The girls all looked like they stepped out of the photographer Deborah Turbeville’s shower — smoky eyes, unkempt buns and very romantic. Vera believes in romance and it shows in every fold of the satins, taffetas and wools she uses to create extra embellishments like flowers and rounded shapes in her clothes.”

Yesterday’s Phillip Lim show at the Bryant Park tents was so hot it was like going to Bikram yoga. It was a schmorgesborg of wearable clothes. At times it was a bit too much information and too heavily accessorized. I’d say there was a 70s vibe. The U-shaped runway had tall, jagged mirrors at both ends, that made for an interesting effect. All the heavy-hitter editors where there: Anna Wintour et al, Stefano was there, etc., so the show was definitely a to-do.”
