History of Carnival

This is considered one of the most popular festivals savers and representative of the world. It has its origin in the Portuguese entrudo where, in the past, people played one in others, water, eggs and flour. The entrudo happened in a period before Lent and therefore had a significance attached to freedom. This order remains until today in the days of Carnival.


The entrudo came to Brazil around the square and was influenced by carnival festivities that happen in Europe. In countries like Italy and France, the carnival parades occurred in the shape of urban, where the carnival wore masks and costumes. Celebrities such as colombina, pierrô and King Momo have also been incorporated into the Brazilian carnival, although they are of European origin.

In Brazil, at the end of the nineteenth century, beginning to show the first block carnival, cords and the famous "Corsican." The latter have become more popular in the beginning of XX centuries. People are fantasiavam, decoravam their cars and in groups, desfilavam the streets of the cities. Ai is the origin of floats, typical of the samba schools of today.

In the twentieth century, the carnival was growing and becoming increasingly popular a party. This growth occurred with the help of marchinhas carnival. The music left the carnival increasingly animated.

The first school of samba emerged in Rio de Janeiro and called up Lets Talk. It was created by Snowbunny Rio called Ismael Silva. Years later the Lets Talk has become the school of samba Estácio de Sá. From dai the street carnival begins to gain a new format. They get the emerging of samba schools in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. The carnival street kept their original traditions in the Northeast region of Brazil. In cities like Recife and Olinda, people leave the streets during the carnival in the pace of frevo and maracatu.

The parades, giant dolls, in Recife, is one of the main attractions of the city during the carnival.

In the city of Salvador, there are the electric trios, packaged by music dançantes of singers and groups typical of the region. In town it is also the blocks blacks as the Olodum and Ileyaê, apart from blocks of the street and Afoxé Filhos de Gandhi.
